The onboarding process is a user's first impression and, if well designed, increases the likelihood of successful registration. When a user installs coopz for the first time, the onboarding process takes on a very important role in the UX, as information must be deposited that is difficult to obtain later.

What is "onboarding"?

The term onboarding describes a process that begins the moment a user clicks on "Register" and ends once the user understands how the product works. Several elements play a role in onboarding, from the user interface (UI) to the user experience (UX). Bad experiences along this route determine whether the user remains loyal to the app.

What constitutes good onboarding?

It is important to dose the information correctly. Especially in the first steps, there is a great danger that new users will feel overwhelmed by the amount of information.

After all the necessary questions have been filled in, numerous features and exciting matches are already waiting for the new users. The profile that has now been created can be adapted and supplemented with further content at any time.

The better a new user is introduced to the app, the sooner he or she will feel comfortable and the quicker the expected matches will be made. And: a successful introduction to the app lays the foundation for satisfied users - and thus for a good relationship with the product.

Why is it important to provide the data?

The more detailed and truthful the information provided in the onboarding process, the more precise the matching indicator will be. This is available to the registered user on each proposed profile as a percentage and shows how much I have in common with the other person.

The higher the indicator, the better the suggested person matches the user of the app. This can be seen on the following screens:

  • Homepage or user profile
  • Favourites & matches
  • Locations

Matching algorithms suggest partners

We were faced with the challenge of presenting the users of the coopz app with a manageable and sensible range of potential partners and only suggesting those that fit together individually.

But how exactly does the allocation work? Matching algorithms are among the most successful mathematical methods of the data age. A machine selects the potential contacts. Through onboarding, the user first discloses information about himself. An algorithm then selects partners who match the information on values and lifestyle. Such matching persons can then contact each other.

Share your favourite places with all kinds of people

Where is your favourite place in your neighbourhood, what is the best cinema or where is the most delicious cake? coopz allows you to save interesting places around the world in your profile - from parks and museums to restaurants, bars, clubs and cinemas.

App users who come across your profile can discover the places you have created and be inspired by them. As soon as the people are in the immediate vicinity of your locations, the users are displayed in the app.

  • All created locations are displayed as tabs
  • Users within a radius of 5 km of the respective locations are listed below in a boxed view
  • The matching algorithm does not play a role, all users are displayed
  • By tapping on a user, you can view their profile and contact them

And it made zoom

If two users like each other, i.e. swipe to the right, this becomes a match and the matching overlay appears for both users.

The following options are available to the user here:

Search for more matches
➡️ You will be redirected back to the start page and a new user will be displayed

Start a conversation
➡️ You will be redirected to the chat

What happens if I miss a match?
➡️ Then the overlay is displayed as soon as I enter the app again

It's a match
